Refined optical elements
Topcon has achieved unprecedented image clarity, definition and brightness thanks to an improved optical design and color balanced halogen illumination in the SL-8Z. To eliminate flare and ghost images, the lens surfaces from the objective lens to the eyepiece lenses are multi-coated. A working distance to the eye of 316mm allows for optical gonioscopy, funduscopy and contact lens work. An improved high eyepoint eyepiece design now shortens and straightens the final optical path to make even an extended observation fatigue-free.

High eyepoint eyepiece
A newly designed high eyepoint eyepiece provides you with easier alignment for the operator's viewing. This gives greater range of image focus for the operator when moving up and down or side to side.

Convenient magnification knob
The magnification knob has been ergonomically positioned to assist the user in moving from the magnifier to the patient's eye. Positioned closer to the patient, it provides the operator with a less cumbersome examination during longer viewing times.

Improved natural brightness
The halogen illumination system in the SL-8Z provides a smooth light display across the entire visible field for optimum color fidelity. The combination of innovative optics and lighting result gives tremendous improvement in image clarity and detail.

Zoom lever
By applying highly efficient zoom optics, the SL-8Z provides continuous observation through the magnification changes of 6.35X to 31.75X. Detents are provided at the 10X, 16X, and 25X positions for easy reference. This gives dramatic visualization of minute anterior conditions and creates an excellent display for video technology.

Smooth precise positioning and operating ease
The greatest test of any slit lamp performance is measured in its ease and precision of positionmg. Even the finest optics and illumination must be supported by a movement system that allows the operator to quickly and easily maneuver the unit to the correct observation position. To accomplish extremely fine control of every operation, Topcon's omni-directional joystick makes it simple to position and align the instrument to the desired viewing point quickly. The joystick also allows precise control over vertical and horizontal adjustments, all with one-hard operation. The photo capture trigger is built into the joystick to make it easy to obtain photos.

Four built-in filters
Select any of the four filters built into the SL-8Z through the knob on the illumination column. Filter choices include: cobalt blue, redfree, 13% neutral density, and a heat absorption filter.

Versatile slit adjustment
The SL-8Z allows continuous adjustment of the vertical slit image. Smaller slit values provide increased depth-of-focus for improved observation of fine detail.

Tonometer mount adapter
A tonometer mount adapter is integrated into the top of the microscope.

Continuous adjustment of illumination
Continuous illumination control is available with the rheostat knob which is conveniently located near the joystick.

Expanded viewing field
A 14mm slit width makes it possible to observe the entire fitting of a soft contact lens along the corneal surface.

Digital imaging system
| The SL-8Z is capable of inputting images and data into the Topcon IMAGEnet 2000 System for
versatile diagnostic processing and interpretation. The digital images generated can be captured for use in research, education, and clinical applications. IMAGEnet 2000 is a full-function, state-of-the-art digital imaging system for faster, more efficient acquisition, storage, retrieval and analysis of all types of ophthalmic images. |

Video background illumination
Topcon's Video Background Illumination is integrated into the lamp house section to provide compact method for diffused illumination control. With the advancements in video imaging applications, background illumination is critical to achieve detailed imaging of peripheral areas, as well as for detailed reproduction of the anterior segment.
